Ok, so it has been a long time. Ryan wanted me to post these. He got his deer back in October on the opening day of the season. It is a 26 inch 4X4. We now have it on our living room wall where everyone who walks by our window can see!

This is Ryan's first turkey! It's a good looking turkey! He shot him saturday morning. 7 inch beard and 3/4 inch spurs. Ryan already took him to get mounted. I will make sure to post the finished product.

I met my buddy Tyrell at 5:45 am and it was still dark outside, so we grabbed some hot chocolate and headed to the river. We got to our hunting spot just as the sun was rising and we stopped and started glassing the fields. Now, I have never hunted turkeys before so I decided I would hunt them like deer, spot and stalk. Well, we spotted the group of turkeys in the field right below us. We put a plan of attack together and headed out.
Our game plan was to get around the birds and get on the edge of the river and try to flank them, well it was working great until we started to run out of cover, so we belly-crawled for about a mile on our bellies, no kidding! (It was about a 2 mile stalk on these birds) We finally got the river's edge and started towards the birds when all of a sudden we heard a gobble right in front of us. we poked our heads up and 4 turkeys took off running. Scared the crap out of us! We had no idea where they came from! As they ran the toms started to fight. So while they were distracted we decided to try to get closer.
We got about 100 yards closer and the birds were headed back into the brush near the river, we just let them all get into the brush and I started to sneak up on them on the edge of the field. As I got closer to the bushes, I could hear them running around. I started to sneak closer and came up to a clump of bushes, I saw 2 turkeys about 15-20 yards away from me. As soon as they saw me they turned to run and I all I saw was a red head and a beard and BOOM! The bird dropped and I took off running just in case it got up. I jumped on it and grabbed it by the neck. My buddy Tyrell came running towards me (he thought that I missed because he didn't hear me holler) and another tom jumped out of the brush and almost flew right into him! There were turkeys everywhere! I got my bird, and it was exciting! We both couldn't believe I actually got one! I wish we could have taped all of this! I'm sure it was red-neck hunting at it's finest! He's and Awesome turkey!
